What's it about?

Jasmine's a young, college graduate unsure she knows what she wants to do with her life, but her parents have no doubts. They want her to get a good, high paying job, find a boyfriend ( who will one say be her husband)and, just over all, grow up!

And until then, she'll work at the family donut shop.

But what if Jasmine doesn't want the same things for herself? What if she doesn't mind working at the donut shop but she doesn't want to make it her life? And what if she'd rather focus on a fun, fulfilling job rather then getting rich?

And what if she comes face to face with he college crush AND her high school boyfriend, neither of which her parents approve of, and she finds herself struggling to find footing in this new, crazy, upside down world she finds herself in?

Answer: The Donut Trap.

Favorites:

Favorite Character: Jasmine. She's quirky, awkward, sweet, funny and loyal. What's not to love?

Least Favorite Character: Her mother. First of all, I know, there are some cultural differences in between parental strategies and expectations and I really respect that the Tran family takes pride in their culture and continues to keep it a big part of their daily lives. What I didn't like was how critical Jasmine's mom was, to the point where she was so negative in such a direct way that it comes off as kind of mean and hurtful. Now, I don't think that she doesn't love her daughter. In fact, l think she loves her daughters very much! I just think that there is a much better way to address things then she did. And I think she could have listened to her daughter more. Then, maybe her daughter would have been different between them and Jasmine may have had a more decided direction by now.

Favorite Part: This was a hard one because I liked it all! lol But I finally decided on the first texts between Jasmine and Alex. Yes, it was cheesy. It was sweet. It was cute in a slightly cringy way. But it was amusing and I loved it.

Other thoughts:

It's another light hearted rom com but this one has culture, donuts and a sprinkle of finding yourself in the mix. It was fun and further proved that romantic comedies are my absolute favorite genre of books to listen to!

What do I rate it?

I give this book a

7

out of

10 donuts

But that's what I think, what do you think? Was there something I didn't mention that you wish I did? Did you think it was a little too cheesy? Let us know in the comments.
