What's it about?

Nora's just recovering from the biggest loss of her teen life when things get even more interesting then she ever could have imagined! First, she's assigned a new lab partner in science. He's not entirely honest, not entirely safe and not entirely normal (he may not even be entirely human!). Now she finds herself stuck between heeding the feeling of warning that seems to crop up every time she even thinks of him and the undeniable pull she feels towards him. Things only get more complicated when weird events start to happen that may not have happened at all and fear starts to take hold as she starts to suspect that these weird things are not unrelated. In fact, she's starting to wonder if someone isn't trying to kill her! But with a surplus of suspects who appear to each be vying for her affections, how is a girl to stay alive?

Favorites:

Favorite Character: I think Nora wins this prize, but I don't know how much of it has to do with her personality (which is fine), but with her intelligence to not run straight into danger, wonder why things are happening the way they are. I liked that she sensed danger and acted on it. She took precautions to keep herself safe, even if she didn't always make the best decisions.

Least Favorite Character: Elliot. I don't know what it was about him, but I had a hard time trusting him, even when I should have trusted him. He just felt ominous to me. Now, there are some other reasons, but I can't go into those without giving spoilers (and we don't do spoilers around here) which didn't help my thoughts of him.

Other thoughts:

This book had an unexpected Twilight vibe to it. Hold on! Come back! While they are similar, there are oh so many differences, too! However both main characters were thrust into crazy, unknown situations after a big change in their lives (Bella moved, Nora experienced a huge loss), they met during science class, their instincts told them their new partners were dangerous, their partners have big secrets that prove to be dangerous (and maybe life threatening) and their lives are on the line! Plus, both are written in the first person view point. However Nora and Bella are very different people who respond differently to their dangerous lab partners and their partners are oh so very different. They aren't even the same species (so yes, no vampires. Sorry). But, even though I loved Twilight (don't judge me), I really enjoyed Fallen. I loved that it had a little bit of a Twilight feel without being the same story.

With that being said, I did feel like Nora could have had a stronger personality. I just didn't feel like there were many characteristics that stand out in my mind when I think about Nora, other then she's protective of her friends and is not entirely honest herself. I wish that I could think of Nora and have this strong, clear picture of her other then just average.

I rate this book a:

But, that's just me! What did you think of this book? Did you love it? Did you think Nora was an amazing character? Let us know in the comments.
